Mechanical Testing

Our Mechanical Testing Transforms Raw Strength into Precision Performance, Crafting the Backbone of Innovation.

ELCA Laboratory conducts a diverse array of mechanical tests on metals, weldments, pipes, and tubes. These tests ensure material integrity and compliance with industry standards. Below is a comprehensive outline of our testing capabilities, detailing the various tests we offer and the associated equipment.

Tensile Test – We conduct tensile tests in compliance with ASTM A370, ASTM E8/E8M, ASTM E21, IS 1608, and ISO 6892. Our tensile testing machines range from 1 kN, 5 kN, 50 kN, 100 kN, 300 kN, 400 kN, & 1000 kN, accommodating samples of various sizes and tensile strengths. This versatility allows us to test metals, weldments, torsion steel, and other components. We can also perform these tests at room temperature or at elevated temperatures up to 900°C, enabling us to determine properties such as Young’s modulus and proof stress from 0.01% to 1%.

Hardness Test – Our hardness testing adheres to multiple standards, including ASTM A370, ASTM E10, ASTM E18, ASTM E92, ASTM E384, IS 1501, IS 1586, IS 1500, ISO 6506-1, ISO 6507-1, ISO 6508-1, and ASTM A956. We use a variety of methods to cover the full range of Brinell, Rockwell, and Vickers hardness tests. Our equipment supports Brinell hardness loads from 187.5/2.5 to 10/3000, Rockwell scales A, B, and C (including superficial scales N and T), and Vickers hardness with loads from 30 kg to microhardness loads as low as 10 grams. Additionally, we conduct case depth analysis and can perform portable hardness tests on-site.

Impact at Room Temperatures to -196 deg C Impact Tests as per ASTM Standards - Charpy and Izod Impact from Room Temperatures to -196 Dec C

Impact Test – We perform impact tests according to ASTM E23, ISO 148-1, IS 1757, and IS 1598, across a wide range of temperatures, from ambient to -196°C. Our impact testing machines have capacities ranging from 2 joules to 400 joules, allowing us to test a variety of materials and assess their resilience to sudden impacts.

Bend Test – For assessing the ductility and flexibility of weldments and metals, we conduct bend, re-bend, and flattening tests. These tests ensure that metals and weldments can withstand deformation without cracking.

Load Test – In addition to tensile and impact tests, we perform a variety of load tests, such as proof load tests on nuts, breaking load tests, wedge load tests on bolts, and load vs. displacement tests. These tests are crucial for evaluating the structural integrity of components and their ability to withstand specified loads.

Our Jominy hardenability tests, conducted as per ASTM A255, allow us to evaluate the hardenability of steel and understand how it responds to heat treatment.

Compression Test – We conduct compression tests on springs, plates, and other components to measure their compressive strength and deformation characteristics. These tests are essential for ensuring that materials and components can endure compressive forces without failure.

Ericson Cupping Test – We also perform Ericson cupping tests to assess the ductility of sheet metals and peel tests to evaluate the adhesion and integrity of bonded materials, such as cladded plates, in accordance with ASTM A263, ASTM A264, and ASTM A265.

With our comprehensive range of mechanical tests and adherence to international standards, we are equipped to meet the testing requirements of a wide variety of industries, ensuring safety, reliability, and performance.
